In an era where the government consistently fails to protect us, Everyone needs an AR-15 in their home!

Milo Yiannopoulos of Brietbart Media, a gay activist and conservative reporter posted recently a photo of himself with a designer hand bag and an AK-47. He says, “Saddle Up Homos. If the government won’t protect us, it’s time to defend ourselves!” or something to that effect. It’s funny, but in light of the Orlando shooting, also very tragic.

Milo is right when he says that the government has failed in its primary function of protecting its people. 49 gay partygoers dead and 53 wounded in a horrific attack at a night club where the attacker was working as a security guard and where he obtained legally the semi-automatic weapons he used to kill. To add insult to injury, the guy, Omar Mateen, was twice questioned by the FBI, but nothing happened.

It is in this atmosphere that I’ve come to the conclusion, I’ve actually arrived at it long ago, that the government is unable or unwilling to protect us against violent extremist. Barack Obama even goes so far as to refuse to call it what it is. Instead of the continued norm of allowing the government to do that job, badly, it is time now for the individual to try to come up with a plan to protect themselves.

Gays have been dying in Iraq and in the Middle East for months as Isis throws them off buildings and post videos of it on You Tube. Nobody batted an eye. Now the Orlando tragedy. Are we now going to wake up?

The president says that more gun control legislation is needed. What is needed is a focus on violent extremists. Whatever Mr. Obama. You are irrelevant. Go into retirement already.

In light of this more recent tragedy, I offer a proposal. If you are gay or straight, man or woman, or transgender, doesn’t matter. If you have never picked up a weapon before and don’t know the first thing about self defense firearms, I will train you. Meet me at the range and I will let you shoot an AR-15  for the first time. I will allow you to shoot one of my handguns or we can rent one to use. I know a couple of places where we can go. If you want to learn how to defend yourself, I will give you your first lesson for free!

My fiance shoots all the time. We enjoy doing it together. She is a slight Asian female. She likes to shoot my Smith and Wesson M&P 15 because of the accuracy and light recoil. We’ve shot Appleseed events together here in Minnesota. It’ s a good time.

I’ve determined that I’m going to carry my weapon more and more, where appropriate. It’s obvious that the gun grabbers are going to continue to try to curtail our constitutional rights. They don’t speak for us. This is exactly the scenario that our founding fathers drafted the second amendment for. They foresaw a weak government unable to defend us all the time, so the onus was on the individual. The technology has changed, the principle has not. Everyone should get their carry conceal license as soon as possible, and beyond that they should train in real world situations.

I’ve been watching a nice You Tube series of training videos out there that train people on various gun related self defense scenarios. It’s called FP.D, First Person Defender. Various gun manufacturers and ammo producers put it on. They have several seasons of short video where they take role players through real world defense situations and train them to respond. You can view the first season here.

I recommend watching FP.D to anyone interested in getting more training on personal fire arm protection. The instructors are vary competent and know their stuff. They will train you at the level you are at. Furthermore, I recommend anyone go find a carry conceal training program in your area. Many of them will rent a firearm to you. I suggest you visit the range before hand and familiarize yourself with a particular weapon before you go. The laws may vary in your state.

There is not a day goes by I don’t think about my personal protection. I remember in Iraq I went to a movie theater in Balad. Everyone in the theater was a soldier and everyone had a weapon, perhaps two. I carried my pistol and a rifle into the theater. I remember sitting down in the theater and a machine gunner was attempting to find a seat behind me with his big bulky M240 machine gun. He accidently bashed me on the back of the head with the but t stock of his weapon. He apologized profusely.

I was in a theater this last week with my fiance. There is not a time I don’t go to a public setting like that and wonder, what if? The Aurora theater shooting hit close to home because I have relatives in the Denver area. What happens I wonder if I go into a theater and someone crazy walked in with guns and started blazing away. I’d be a sitting duck.

Ever since Iraq, I feel naked without a firearm.

I see a lot of people walking around without a clue as to what is happening around them. You people who have your heads up your, uh, phones, need to pay attention and scan your sector. Learn the difference between level white, level orange, and level red. Google it if you have to!

Gun control isn’t the answer. Preparedness is. Time for everyone to take personal responsibility for their own self protection. There aren’t enough cops out there to prevent all crime.

Pray for the victims of the Orlando Club shooting, as well as their families.

And for the Muslims who renounced this horrible attack, thank you. Your compassion has not gone unnoticed.
