This column will be my thoughts on why I am supporting Donald Trump for president.

I have to say he was not my first choice. He wasn’t my third choice. But he is the presumptive nominee of my party and I will go along with the party because I can’t stand Hillary Clinton and her sleazy husband Bill.

I imagined that if I came out to a public area in my town of Rochester and I announced over a megaphone that I supported Trump, and if I invited other people to debate me on the benefits or problems of my candidate over theirs and vice versa, I would start a riot. Can you imagine? Suppose I brought a megaphone to the Thursday’s on First events here in town and just said, “listen up people! I just want to talk about why I will vote for Donald Trump!” and then offer the megaphone to anyone who wanted to debate me, what do you suppose would happen? I’d probably be shouted down at best and someone in the crowd would probably throw something at me or assault me. Guaranteed!

It’s become crazy at these political rallies and it’s just nuts. People at Trump rallies have been struck, they’ve had eggs thrown at them. They’ve been injured, tackled, whatever. If you are assaulting people over their political speech in this country you need to go to jail and be prosecuted under the same laws as the mobsters. You are intimidating people for their political speech and you are abusive and need to go to jail. I don’t care if you are a Trump supporter or not. You hit someone else because they support someone you are opposed to, you go to jail. If you disagree, write a blog, attend a rally, join a campaign and march, but don’t be hitting people.

Assaulting people at political rallies is not free speech!

Assaulting people at political rallies is not free speech!

I see that Bernie Sanders had a rally here and it was quite well attended. Nobody burned the place down, good. What if the future president Donald Trump had a rally, would it go as well? Hey Bernie supporters, wanna debate me? Great. I’m game. I’m totally bringing up Venezuela. You millennials probably couldn’t find that country on the map.

I think that you really see the true character of people or lack there of during the political season. People go crazy. The democratic socialists love their candidate and his ideology but they don’t have the emotional maturity to listen to another person’s views with respect and then debate them with cogent thoughts of their own. Likewise there are Trump supporters who are exactly the same way in reverse. There was that video of an old cowboy punching a black guy in the face. He later said that if the man he assaulted came back he might have to kill him. That is a terrorist and he needs to go to jail.

Likewise there was a lady that had eggs thrown at her because she supported Trump. A kid was tackled in public by a black fellow because he was a Trump supporter. Another guy had blood dripping down his face because he supports Trump. Enough already.

If you support the other guy or gal, grab a microphone and debate me, but don’t be assaulting people. Your  first amendment rights don’t include assaulting people with a different opinions.

I think Trump will be a better candidate than Hillary because quite frankly I think that a Hillary presidency will be an endorsement of the last 8 years of Obama and I can’t stand the thought of that. It’s time for a change. Trump has run successful companies. He’s also had bankruptcies, but Hillary would run the country into the ground. I think Donald Trump will restructure the economy and there will be a little pain, but ultimately I think it will be for the ultimate good.

One of the biggest gripes I have with Hillary is her support of Australian style gun confiscation here in the country.  Nobody can deny we have a problem with violence in this country. But you can’t blame lawful gun owners or gun manufacturers for that. Should we sue baseball manufacturers. Their products cause more injuries and deaths than guns. Don’t get me started about cars. Violence is in the heart and to change  that you have to change the heart. Like John the Baptist said, “change from within”. You look at Europe with their massive problems with immigrants from Syria and the Middle East and what do you see, people turning over cars, looting and destroying businesses, throwing rocks at cops. Do we want that here? No.

I totally support a temporary moratorium on immigration from Muslim countries for the time being. Jimmy Carter did it and nobody called him a racist. I think it should be one of the first things on a Trump agenda. Also, build the wall. I’m tired of people coming here illegally. People call me a racist because of that. I’m not a racist. There are billions of people in this world who want and deserve a better life. There are too many people for this country to absorb. We have to help them where they are.

My fiancé who is the love of my life is an immigrant from the Philippines. She came here legally on a Green Card. People who jump the border who come here illegally are slapping people like her square in the face. “Screw you! You were so stupid to pay the money and wait  your turn! I’m just going to go to America and take my chances!” My Honeybear loves her country. She also loves this one and wants to live a happy life. We’ve watched with interest the election of Rodrigo Duterte as president of the Philippines. We have hope that he will turn that country around. We are also glad to see Manny Pacquiao  the famous Philippine boxer becoming a senator. Congratulations. You can be patriotic about your homeland but still support the laws and traditions of the nation in which live. Someone said, “support the nation you live in or live in the nation you support!” Don’t be waiving a Mexican flag at me while you are living in this country. If you love Mexico so much, feel free to go back. Nobody is out there treading on the Mexican Flag, don’t expect me to be gleeful when you trod on Old Glory. I’m a veteran. I see you do that I’m going to have a few choice comments for you. Trigger warning my little socialist cupcake! You might be offended!

Hillary Clinton had her chance to answer the 3 a.m. phone call. The ambassador Chris Stevens was calling. He’s dead, as well as three others who died along with him. Special Operators dedicating their lives to defending Americans came to their aid and received no support. A four-star combatant commander offered aid and was told to stand down. He proceeded to send aid anyway and was immediately arrested and relieved of command. Who has the authority to stop a four-star general. Barack Obama, the president of the United States, that’s who. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton let those people die and then had the audacity to lie to the faces of their grieving family members, blaming a video which almost nobody saw. That’s why I can’t support Hillary Clinton.

For all of Donald’s flaws one thing is clear. He loves the country and wants it to prosper. I don’t know about the people currently in office. They  are terrible and it’s time to change course. Trump doesn’t badmouth cops, he supports them. Hillary badmouths cops. Trump supports the military. Hillary would cut the military. Trump has the endorsement of the NRA. Hillary would disarm us and leave us vulnerable to violence from radicals coming over our borders illegally. Trump has a business back ground and would work the create jobs. Hillary is good at creating jobs for terrorists.

Donald J. Trump

I was a Ted Cruz guy. I still like him. He has a goofy love of the constitution that I admire. But the people have spoken and my party supports Donald Trump, so I will too. That doesn’t mean he has a blank check. I’m frankly pissed off at the Republican Party and its leadership. If they screw up the next four years like they have in the past, I’m going to be their worst nightmare.

Hillary isn’t the answer. The little democratic socialist would bring us an economy like Venezuela, and the libertarian Gary Johnson and his running mate are jokes. I’m holding my nose again and voting for Trump. Please don’t come to my house and try to burn my house down. I have a gun and will be utilizing my second amendment rights.

In the Eyes of Fans the World Over, Pacquiao Wins Epic Battle

Mayweather may have won a technical fight between himself and underdog opponent Manny Pacquiao, by in the eyes of the adoring fans the world over, Manny, a modern day Robin Hood, was the winner.

Mayweather’s technical win seems to hinge on a weak punch, run away and hug strategy. Using his longer reach, the black American would keep his Filipino opponent away at distance, and keep on throwing week punches every time Pacquiao would try to step in and fight. There’s a reason for this. Pacquiao is a dangerous fighter who knocks people out. In the close fight, Manny wins. That’s why often when Manny did step in, Floyd would wrap him up and hug him. It’s a good strategy if you aren’t looking for a real fight, but it makes the outcome less clear.

Floyd Mayweather's run and hug strategy may have won him the fight in technical terms, but made him the loser in the eyes of people watching.

Floyd Mayweather’s run and hug strategy may have won him the fight in technical terms, but made him the loser in the eyes of people watching.

Given all the “points” that Mayweather accumulated from the judges throughout the fight, Floyd chose not to engage Pacquiao anymore, choosing instead to run around the ring and keep away. Already this weak punch, run and hug strategy has given rise to humorous memes on the Internet.

Some of those memes include the following:

Pacquiao is a fighter, Mayweather is a marathoner!

Pacquiao is a figher, Mayweather is a hugger!

Mayweather: Free Hugs!

And Etc. From the very beginning the back stories of the respective fighters suggested an epic battle between good an evil. Pacquiao is the epic small town hero and national champion of the Philippines. He smiles, he worships God openly, and he interacts with fans. On contrast, Mayweather is all about the money, in fact that is his monicker. In the lead up to the fight there was awkward video of a Mayweather fluncky hanging bottles of expensive wine in a expansive room in one of Floyd’s overpriced houses. The weird video showed just how out of touch Floyd seems to be with the common people. He is a franchise fighter and business man who cares primarily about himself and fails to connect to people.

So it was Darth Vader vs. Luke Skywalker apparently. Ultimately the professional boxing style wasn’t very entertaining for most people who aren’t fans of boxing who only tuned in because they hopped to see a real brawl, which didn’t materialize.

There was a telling moment when a rude interviewer was talking to Manny after the fight. He looked very uncomfortable next to Manny as he basically asked him why he was such a loser, being out-boxed by the American opponent. Manny smiled and said simply, “I think I won the fight!” That shocked the interviewer, who countered. “Well, what about Mayweather’s power. Could you feel that in the ring?” To which Manny smiled, with his bright personable smile and said, “I can handle his ‘power’!”

Because there was no power to Mayweather’s punches. A martial arts practitioner will tell you that you can’t break a board or a brick by punching it at the full length of your punch, which is what Floyd was doing to Manny. The target has to be closer in, and the fighter must punch through the target for there to be any power. Whatever power was in Mayweather’s punches was pretty much extinguished at full reach when they occasionally made contact with Pacquiao’s face or body. Analysis given by the announcers demonstrate that the fight was basically judged by the number of punches thrown versus the effectiveness of those punches, which came out hugely in Mayweather’s favor. It seems an odd way to judge a fight that seemed largely to come out as a draw in the eyes of the viewers.

Many are already speculating on whether there will be a rematch, but I find that highly unlikely, based on the build up to this fight. It might take another five years, at which time, the fighters will be well past their prime. The only way Mayweather would schedule such a fight is if he could capitalize on it for more money. He can find the money elsewhere, and much easier too.

The fight was largely a disappointment to Philippines fans, who put a lot of emotional stock in their hero. But the loss doesn’t diminish Manny at all. If nothing it elevates him through the sorrow of disappointment in the eyes of the fans who admire his straight forward, honest fighting style. I was in a house filled with Filipino immigrants that night and all of them were angry at Mayweather for cheating and running rather than fighting. Many asked the question: why doesn’t he get penalized for that? Isn’t that illegal? I’m not a boxing fan, so I don’t know the rules, which seemed to favor the American and weigh against his Filipino challenger.

The rules of society don’t make much sense sometimes and often heroes of the past find themselves at odds with them. Jesus Christ, Robin Hood, Davy Crocket, etc. all were victims of this, but in the end it did not diminish them, but elevated their legend. At the end of the day, Manny Pacquiao was elevated again on the shoulders of people who love him and identify with him. In the meantime, the ‘winner’, Floyd Mayweather will be able to cash in, while at the same time be the subject of ridicule not unlike Pontious Pilate, the Sheriff of Nottingham, and Santa Anna.

One more observation on the fight before closing. Did anyone notice the weird opening? There were three national anthem’s played. The United States and the Philippines, and I get that, but why was the Mexican Anthem sung? It was a weird awkward moment to be listening to an anthem played for a participant who wasn’t there, had no dog in the fight. Apparently the PC police are in full force. The excuse was, in celebration of Cinco de Mayo. Whatever. It would have been better if it had not been played. Leave the PC crap at the door. All it did was cause snickers amongst the impatient fans who waited hours to see the primary fight card.

The so-called epic matchup

The so-called epic matchup between Mayweather and Pacquiao ultimately was a disappointment to people watching.
